Maintenance Menu

Performing regular maintenance helps to reduce breakdowns and increases the value of your vehicle.

CABIN AIR FILTER

Your car may have a cabin air filter that stops dust and mold from entering your vehicle through the heating and A/C system. When plugged, this will reduce the airflow entering the vehicle and cause inadequate heating or air conditioning performance. If you have seasonal allergies, replacing this filter regularly will stop dust and mold from entering your car’s ventilation system, improving air quality.

OIL CHANGE FILTER

Car manufacturers are recommending oil and filter changes at 7,000km to 10,000km. At Avalon Auto Service, we recommend changes every 5,000km for severe driving conditions. Due to oil contamination, we consider driving around town, even repetitive short trips, severe. Changing your oil and filter often removes contaminants, thus prolonging your engine’s life.

TIMING BELT

Some manufacturers recommend the replacement of the timing belt at 100,000 km to prevent engine damage. A broken timing belt can bend valves in the engine and damage pistons, resulting in expensive engine repairs and engine replacement.

TIRE ROTATION

Rotating your car’s tires every 10,000km is vital for longer tire life. Watching wear patterns and tire pressures will help your tires last longer.

TRANSMISSION SERVICE

Automatic transmissions are continually shifting up & down, creating a lot of heat in your transmission. Heat can break down transmission oil, preventing it from protecting metal parts & bushings. Having the fluid changed every 50,000km will help your transmission last longer.

BRAKE INSPECTION

Brakes tend to last anywhere from 60,000km to 100,000km on most Vehicles, depending on driving conditions. Today’s friction materials contain metallic particles in place of asbestos. These small particles accelerate the wear of brake friction materials, brake drums, and backing plates if not removed regularly.

COOLING SYSTEM FLUSH

Manufacturers recommend that antifreeze is changed every two years. Antifreeze contains chemicals that fight corrosion and supply seals with conditioners. These chemicals deplete over time, so flushing and changing antifreeze can help prevent head gasket problems and significant cooling system problems.

POWER STEERING FLUSH

Power steering systems are exposed to extreme heat and high pressure, causing fluid breakdown and sludge deposit, which results in premature component failure. Power steering systems should be flushed every 3 years or 50,000kms.

BRAKE FLUID FLUSH

Brake systems absorb moisture, which can cause your vehicle’s brake fluid to be so acidic that it can result in premature brake failure. Without preventative maintenance, this repair could cost hundreds of dollars. Brake fluid should be flushed every 3 years or 60,000 km.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT

For safe driving and extended tire life, a wheel alignment should be performed at least once a year.

Oil changes are the most common known maintenance. Still, many drivers neglect to do many other essential maintenance items that improve performance and reliability, such as a coolant flush, transmission flush, brake fluid flush and many others. Please talk to one of our service advisors about building a maintenance package that works within your budget!

The service intervals are recommendations for Saskatchewan driving conditions. Not every procedure will be required in every case, depending on the type of car you own and your driving habits. Performing regular maintenance intervals may save you hundreds, even thousands of dollars in repair bills over the life of your vehicle.
